Stretching and Squeezing Reduces Fat

Dear Friend,

Made a mistake in an email earlier this week. I talked about the man (in his 50's) who flexed his abs during Hindu pushups and got a set of washboard, six-pack abs for the first time in his life.

What was the mistake?

Just that I was off by almost 20 years. In going through my archives I found the link to the man who is so close to 72 that I rounded his age upward.

If you missed that email you can find it again by going to here.

In that email I told the man, Fred Romig, that he had just given away a tremendous fitness secret. Certainly not the biggest of them all, but a significant one, no doubt.

In the Magnificent Seven in Combat Abs for example, I talk about the Back Arch With Forward Bend and Squeeze ... as well as the Dynamic Side Bend Stretch With Isometric Squeeze.

Like the Farmer Burns Stomach Flattener, these exercises involve deep breathing and squeezing. And that's why they are so damn effective in helping people knock inches off the waistline.

The other day I was watching a lady teaching some classical dancing movements. She had a "killer" body .. and as she taught her students these stretches, she told them to simultaneously squeeze the muscles being stretched - especially the abdominals. Doing so, she said, "helps reduce unwanted fat."

One of the many reasons why this is true is something called "intensity." Why don't crunches work? Because there ain't much to them.

Conversely, why does the Farmer Burns Stomach Flattener work? Because it requires an intense muscle contraction. Good news: It only lasts two to five seconds - hence my constant harping of "five second abs."

Yet, if the contraction is intense enough, 1 second will move you along the path to your goals. In fact, 72-year old Fred Romig only held his contraction whilst doing Hindu pushups for 1 second. Granted, he did more than one rep - but the power that pores forth from that one second of each rep, that's the key.

Incidentally, in the monthly CD for the Matt Furey Inner Circle - I literally walk each student through an array of stretching and flexing exercises, combined with deep breathing and powerful focusing, that totally rule. So if you're not an Inner Circle member yet - consider becoming one. You'll go further faster with a little coaching.

Here's something else you should know, just in case: Got an email from a lady who is laid up in bed for a few weeks due to an ankle injury. She asked me what she can do to improve her fitness when she can't put weight on her ankle.

Well, provided your physician agrees, you can begin with deep breathing and abdominal contractions. Then you can do the same for the rest of your body. There are several legendary stories of weak, sickly boys turning into strongmen by employing this method of flexing while on the hospital bed. It's not advisable for everyone, that's why you need to bounce off "el doctoro" - but you'd be surprised to find out how many people could be benefitting from this advice.

Tomorrow I meet with my Maximum Success Coaching members. So I better shove off now and prepare.

Have a great weekend. And don't forget to ...

Kick butt - take names!
