Why I Quit Eating Chicken

Dear Friend,

I feel much better now. I made a dietary change, once again. It's the same one I made before going to China in 1997 to win the world championship in Shuai-chiao kung fu.

What was that change.

I quit eating chicken.

Now, here's why I quit eating it the first time: When I was dropping weight for competition, via my now world-famous Furey Fat Loss System. one of my goals was that whilst I was dropping weight I needed to maintain my strength - if not increase it.

Well, after two weeks of training I noted that I was feeling weaker, and I noted that I felt especially weak after eating "that bird" - aka, chicken.

I talked to my wife about it and she said, "You need to eat protein that comes from an animal that is strong. Chickens are weak."

Well, no more needed to be said. I eliminated chicken on the spot and my body felt great.

On my most recent trip to China I began partaking in mi favorito dish, lamb, on a daily basis. According to the Chinese eating lamb warms your system, strengthens your kidneys and helps heal stomach problems, if you have them. I didn't - but what the heck. By the way, did you know that the treatment for a dog with stomach problems is the same as the Chinese suggestion, i.e. put the dog on a lamb-based diet.

Anyhoo, after two weeks of eating mostly lamb as my source of protein, I ordered an old favorite, kung pao chicken. After eating it I felt awful. I felt worthless and weak.

So I never ate it again the entire trip. Then, upon my return to the U.S., I realized, "Damn, restaurants over here don't serve lamb. It's all chicken, beef and pork."

I went to one of my local hangouts, a Chinese restaurant, and they asked if I'd like my usual - which was a chicken dish. I told her no - that I no longer eat chicken. She asks why and I say, "Chickens are stupid - and they're weak, too. Being stupid can pass if you're strong. But being stupid AND weak, that doesn't cut it."

She looked at me and laughed, thinking, "Where do I find whackos like this guy."

I requested lamb, knowing they don't have it. I settled for a Mongolian beef dish loaded with broccoli.

Last night, in conversation with a friend, I was reminded of an old Jack LaLanne line I read some 20 years ago, when he described chicken. From what I recall, he said that chickens are filthy creatures. They eat anything including each other's own excrement.

Ah-hah. That proved it, to me at least. That's why I have felt weak after eating chicken. They're filthy creatures.

Now, you may argue that beef, pork, lamb and other species are also filthy, yet one thing is for certain - I don't feel weaker after eating them.

In most cases, when you eat beef, pork, etc. - go for the organic meats - esp. "grass fed beef, etc." If you like to go out to eat, tis not possible, but while at home you can eat meat that isn't pumped full of the latest batch of antibiotics, hormones and such.

One last thing: If you want to keep eating chicken, t'ain't my business and I really don't care. I wrote today's message to tell you what this Fure-cat is up to, not to convince you to do what I do, or to condemn you for doing what you do. To each his own.

Kick butt - take names,
