Deep Inside The Mind of a Champion
Dear Friend,
This morning I was looking through the transcripts of my
Magnetic Mind Power program and saw a passage that I
just knew you'd love. Why? Because it has to do with one
of my early mentors and coaches, Dan Gable.
I speak a lot about Gable in my program, but just in case you
don't have it - here's a little tease for you:
"Getting back to Dan Gable, what did I learn from him?
As a freshman in college, I was sitting in his office, reading
an interview done with him. He was asked if he could put his
finger on something unique about him that made him successful.
In Gable's reply he sited the vivid use of his imagination.
He talked about how he would go in the backyard and, as a kid,
he would imagine he was Mickey Mantle and he was playing in the
1963 World Series. He'd imagine it was the 9th inning, 2 outs with
2 strikes. Here was his chance to win the ballgame, the World Series.
With his wrestling, he did the same thing. In Mike Chapman's "Two Guys
Named Dan," he said, "I must have won the state championship at least
1,000 times in my basement before he ever won it for real."
When I was a freshman at Iowa I didn't really understand how time
spent "imagining" your future is the most important "work" you will ever
do. But I know now.
The other night I was at a friend's home playing pool with his 16-year old
son. I hadn't played a single game of pool in years, and technically speaking,
I'm not very skilled. But as I sunk one shot, I told the boy, "Pool is a great
game of concentration. In fact, that's what all games are. They're just tests
about how well you can concentrate. And the truth is, if you want to become
a great pool player or golfer or anything else, the process is really quite simple.
But only a few will bother to listen and follow the process."
"What's the process?" he asked.
"Well, first you set a definite target or goal. Second, you imagine accomplishing that
goal - and you imagine it as often as you can. All the time, preferably. You get up
thinking about it. You dream about it during the day. You go to bed thinking about
it and oftentimes, in your sleep, you end up dreaming about it. Third, you read, study
and practice the exact techniques and tactics used by the best champions you can find.
You keep doing all of the above to become a champion. And you keep doing them to
stay a champion."

Kick butt - take names!
P.S. Your most valuable asset is your imagination. It's a pity that so
few bother to discover how to use it. Don't be one of those people.
Use your imagination and change your life for the better. Head on over to Psycho Cybernetics and see what I'm talking
about.
